About the role
This opportunity has come about as part of V/Line's commitment to professional development and career progression within our Corporate Affairs team.
We’re after a Senior Policy Adviser to develop and support whole-of-organisation policy positions and provide policy advice to senior leadership.
Reporting to the Head of Policy, the Senior Policy Advisor will work at the heart of the V/Line Corporate Affairs team and contribute to the strategic policy alignment between V/Line and Government across a broad range of areas including operations, performance, strategy and planning and risk.
The role is responsible for the development of evidence, analysis of data and research to inform evidence-based policy decision making and advocacy. The role will maintain collaborative and professional working relationships across the organisation and government, develop and contribute to policy, and prepare briefing materials and reliable policy advice to senior leadership and externally.
This role will see you:
- Using evidence, analysis and data to interpret key insights to inform policy positions and strategic decisions
- Engaging with transport stakeholders to formulate findings and generate recommendations on a range of policy issues
- Preparing concise and impactful policy papers, submissions, reports and briefings for committees, key decision makers and government
- Fostering and developing professional and collaborative working relationships across the organisation and with government partners
- Coordinate the flow of information to and from V/Line across key ministerial offices, DTP, and other Government agencies and authorities, as required
- Supporting the development of major V/Line policy positions, particularly with how V/Line services its responsibilities to government and the community.
About you
To meet the challenges of this position, you will come with demonstrated experience in a policy or advisory role within the government transport sector.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Demonstrated contribution to whole-of-organisation policy positions and submissions
- Experience providing policy advice and support to leaders in the transport sector in a compelling and clear manner.
- Ability to analyse and interpret data effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to translate complex and technical information into clear and straightforward communication.
- Ability to build and nurture strong collaborative and professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Evidence of working effectively within a team, contributing to team deliverables, and providing essential cross-team support as well as experience with working in a flexible environment.
- Tertiary qualifications in public policy, law, economics (or equivalent) is desirable
- Demonstrated alignment to V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.
